In addition to procedure and diagnosis codes, claim codes include the following:

 

        Medicaid Resubmission codes

        Place of Service codes

        Procedure Modifier codes

        Billing Provider ID Qualifier codes

        Referring Provider ID Qualifier codes

        Rendering Provider ID Qualifier codes

        Facility ID Qualifier codes

 

Maintaining these lists can be done by going to Setup > Claim Codes and selecting the desired code. As all of these work the same way so one of them, Place of Service codes, will be used as an example.

 

Claim codes are used to fill various boxes on CMS-1500 insurance claims and appear on the respective screens for lookup. However the code fields on those screens are not linked to the codes on these lists. If you change a code on the list, it does not change those records that use the code. Also, entries that accept these codes do not require that the code you enter exist on the list. Therefore, these codes are mostly for your convenience.

 

 

The list screen lets you select the sort order by selecting either the Code Order or Name Order tab. The lists are not very long so it makes little difference. When you add or edit a code you get a simple entry screen.

 

 

Code

Enter the code. It will be used elsewhere in the program when the user (that would be you) press F2 or right-click on the associated code field.

 

Name

Enter a name to describe the code. It is used for you to identify the code only and is not printed on reports.
